If you asked me to envision a spot more perfect for a girls night out in San Francisco, I don't think I could! When stepping in to Petit Marlowe, you feel as if you've magically transported yourself to a little bistro tucked down a romantic street in Paris. Everything from the glassware to the lighting fixtures are thoughtfully procured to fit the Parisian-flea-market-chic vibe.
The owner, Anna Weinberg, (very chicly dressed herself) entertained us with charming details of what had inspired the decor. The velvet peach-pearl banquette fabric was inspired by Coco Chanel's favorite driving gloves and the wallpaper was an illustration from one of Anna's childhood books. The bar was an eye catching medley of relics from flea markets in Paris and at the back of the restaurant hung a warm array of vintage cookware. The interior had been a joint effort between Anna, creative director Jake Mogelson, and ever-fabulous designer Ken Fulk.
We started our night with the perfect combination of crudo, oysters, and bubbles. I'm generally an absolute nightmare when it comes to my champagne preferences but our charming waiter's recommendation could not have been more spot on.
Chef Jennifer Puccio never disappoints and her dishes were not only delicious but incredibly artful. The scallop shell from our raw assortment above was almost too darling to touch.
The smoked beet and carrot with harissa, sheeps's milk cheese, and fennel fronds did not stay on our plates for long and we devoured the Essex feta with melon and Acacia honey. We all agreed that we had never had a more delicious tasting Feta.
The Italian Burrata was also a highlight, we could easily have had had 3 more!
After a few more glasses of wine we rounded out the meal with a "Chef Pink" Rosé Ice Cream - a collaboration with Scribe Winery and Smitten Ice Cream (the ultimate combo!). Even though we were stuffed silly, we had to make room for this treat.
I can't recommend this new spot enough, it feels like a mini-vacation. Grab some girlfriends or have a romantic date night, you really can't go wrong!
